Job Description

Join the City of Toronto as an Enterprise Technical Support Specialist (Database Administrator) and maximize your technical expertise in MS SQL Server database products, administrative tools and utilities including installation and configuration, backup and recovery, and integration and analysis.

With your considerable enterprise system products experience, including a strong commitment to quality customer service, you will help administer enterprise system solutions to optimize the City's RDBMS database environment and provide ongoing IT support. As an Enterprise Technical Support Specialist (Database Administrator) and an integral member of our Enterprise System Products team, you will be at the ready whenever the need for troubleshooting arises, providing clear, effective technical information and instructions to a wide range of users.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your primary responsibilities as an Enterprise Technical Support Specialist (Database Administrator) will be varied. Specifically, you will:
  • Perform analysis of enterprise software, hardware and transmission facility using diagnostic tools to ensure the optimum operation and maintenance of technology solutions
  • Ensure that proactive action is taken for the operation, installation and support of the enterprise systems and solutions
  • Perform Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and companion products & tools installation, configuration, administration, maintenance & upgrades
  • Provide assistance and technical support in the planning, assessment, design, construction and implementation of upgrades to existing systems and enhancements or additions of future enterprise technologies
  • Conduct research and evaluations of enterprise hardware and software solutions and make recommendations
  • Maintain security on all enterprise server hardware, software and networks, including set-up, revision and cancellation of securities
  • Ensure the stability and integrity of relational databases and middleware products, providing critical support for the production environment
  • Provide backup and recovery services to meet the business recovery requirements
  • Responsible for the capacity planning, security measurement, system monitoring and performance tuning of the database & other products
  • Monitor enterprise systems, products and network usage, performance and capacity, performing trend analysis for system improvements
  • Perform enterprise-wide user account administration, including addition, deletion and change of user accounts according to approved policy, standards and procedures
  • Respond to user inquiries, investigating and analyzing problems and developing solutions and/or action plans
  • Conduct, update and improve reviews of documentation, manuals, standards and procedures
KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Your application for the role of Enterprise Technical Support Specialist (Database Administrator) should describe your qualifications as they relate to:
  1. Considerable experience using MS SQL Server database administrative tools and utilities, including installation, backup & recovery, SQL Server integration, reporting and analysis services.
  2. Experience in MS SQL Server Relational Database software environment, including high-availability architecture, such as SQL Server Clustering, Data Replication and Always-on availability groups.
  3. Considerable experience using Windows- and Unix-based computer operating systems in physical and virtual environments.
  4. Considerable experience with MS SQL RDBMS software licensing concepts.
  5. Experience in Oracle database administration would be an asset.
  6. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Database System Management or Computer Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
You must also have:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey detailed technical information clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of planning, evaluation, analysis, design, implementation and integration of enterprise products in a large, diverse computing and telecommunication environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot incidents reported, assist with their resolution and clearly communicate the means to resolve incidents and/or enhance applications or systems.
  • Highly developed analytical skills to research problems, evaluate and identify business requirements and make recommendations to senior management.
  • Ability to lead the technical change process from planning and implementation perspectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Commitment to customer service, performance quality, and continuous improvement.

Those three jobs are related to IT field. The second and third jobs are more professional on IT area than the first one. The third one is also related to nutrition area which I worked as a nutritionist before
