Good morning, everyone,
How to Work Well in Canada is our theme this week.
Trying to observe and understand culture is like trying to observe and
understand an iceberg. Anyone who is either looking for a job or starting out a
new job will require some time to figure out the expectations, culture, and
customs of any or prospective workplace.
Task 1:
Look up the meanings of the vocabulary words below.
Aggressive n
equality p
rituals
Annoyed n
minimize (minimal) task
Collaborative n
oblivious p
valuable p
Customs promptness prompt
p
values p
Embarrassment
Task 2:
Use at least five of these vocabulary words to write
an email to a friend describing to him/her the Canadian culture.
Dear Mom:
It’s been a while
since I talked to you last time. I would like to share some stories of mine in Canada
with you. There are a lot of differences between Canada and China. Firstly,
Canada is democratic country. Everyone is equal, so we can talk anything what
we want. Secondly, I used to have many
collaborative tasks to do in school which I never did them in china. They like
to ask students to work as a team instead of working individually. Furthermore,
Canadian would like to be promptness. People can be charged if they delay in
some places, so they need to manage their time carefully. However, due to the language barrier, i encountered many things that made me embarrassed at the first few years. i started to realize that the language training at the first year was very valuable, because it helped me get through a lot of problems i had after a few years. Well, It's too late now. I have to go back to sleep. Hopefully, i will hear from you soon.
Monique.
Monique.
Wonderful! I'm so glad we can study together again. Reading your writing is very interesting thing.
