Thursday's assignments

Monday's assignment
Welcome back! What do you think we'll be talking about this week? Take a guess!
Have you ever seen this map of the world? What do you think? Discuss with your classmates. |
Here are your tasks:
- Role play with a partner: Reading a World Map
Greg: What are you doing with that map and that globe?
Julianna: I’m trying to keep track of Carmen as she travels from country to country. I just got another postcard from her today.
Greg: I’m not sure I like the idea of my daughter traveling around the world with a group of people for three months. It’s not safe.
Julianna: She can take care of herself. You know she’s the adventurous type. Give her a compass and she can find her way around anywhere. Help me find Nauru on this map. I don’t even know what continent it’s on. I was never any good at geography.
Greg: All right. You look above the equator and I’ll look below it, but couldn’t you just look it up on the Internet? It would be easy to find the latitude and longitude of this place.
Julianna: This is more fun. I sort of feel like I’m on an adventure myself.
Greg: I can’t make heads or tails of this map. It’s not to scale and this legend is all wrong!
Julianna: It doesn’t matter. We just need to find the place name, and then I can put a pin in this map showing where’s she’s been.
Greg: I have a better idea. I’ll look it up on the Internet and get you all of the vital statistics you’d want, like its location, okay?
Julianna: Forget it. Sometimes it’s more fun doing things the hard way.

- Think of your next career, and browse this site. Then discuss your findings with a partner.
Those are green jobs which are about environment.
- How do you feel about what's going on in some government jobs?
I never thought that they used their powers to do such things until I read the news. However, I am not surprised of that. It's not only government jobs but also any other company jobs. According of the news, I was very ashamed for them.

Turkmen artist Durdy Bayramov
I have been in Canada for so long, this is the first time to visit an art museum. The art exhibition is open in a decent house located on 2647 Bayview ave. when we walked into the house, there were many photographs hanging on the wall. I couldn't wait to enjoy this artist' s work, so I didn't pay too much attention on photograph studio. When we went to the upstairs, the things were changed. The whole area was so colourful, light and warm. Every room had a topic attracted the people's eyes. The flower room is my favourite. how a portrait looked like depended on where you were standing. On the different angle or distance, you would see it differently. Another room which I was interested in was fruit room. we could see the artist wasn't only focus on the fruit but also the background. for example, the artist would like to use a blanket as the background. He gave us all the details of the blanket so that the fruit in the middle would be very visualized. From every work he did, you might know what kind of artist he was. he was so kind and his heart was full of love. His daughter told us so many stories behind the portraits that was fascinating to me. I was so honour that I was invited on that day. Thanks Joseph for giving us a chance to visit this unique art museum.
Farintosh Farms Trip
I didn't go to the farm yesterday because of ultrasound appointment like I said yesterday in the blog. However, yucho shared her story with me about that farm. she told me that she had a lot of fun over there. It took her half an hour driving to get there. There was a huge barn right at the entrance of that farm. people could buy all kinds of food inside the barn. when they past by the barn, there were only cauliflower and beans fields for opening. she chose the beans field because it was easy for her to gather them. By the way, before people went to the fields, there were some baskets and tools available for the guests to pick up the food. After she was done for gathering, there was a place to weigh the products and then to charge people before they left. Yucho bought the beans and an watermelon for eleven dollars. She told me that the sunlight was so strong yesterday, so she sweated a lot and felt so tired. The only thing she didn't like was the washroom's location. It was far from the pick-up area, so she went back home with two dirty hands. when I heard of that, I realized that it was also my problem too. I definitely need to use the ladies' room many times due to my health condition. Nevertheless, everyone had a wonderful day and they all got what they want. Thanks Joseph for taking them to the interesting farm so that they could share their experience with me.
The government is supposed to work for you. But suppose you work for the government. Would that be something you'd like to do?
