Did you learn anything from this morning's conversation and dictation exercise? Do you understand the Canadian government better? Who are those people in the cartoon below?

Here are your tasks:
  1. Complete your trip report on our visit to Durdy Bayramov Art Foundation.
  2. Listen to this recording at least twice, taking good notes.
  3. On a blank sheet of paper, draw a chart of the levels and responsibilities of the Canadian government.
  4. Check your chart with at least two partners. Then take pictures of the chart.
  5. Compare your work with this video.
  6. Publish your chart, notes, and these instructions on your blog.
Canada is the huge country and each community has its own unique needs and interests. To serve most affectively, our government is split into three levels and each has its own representative. Federal which is responsible for the entire country, Provincial or territorial responsible for the provinces or the territories and municipal which is representative for city or town.  Elective representatives are responsible for proposing, studying, debating and voting on bills which are potential laws. Elective representatives also spend their time meeting their constituents to discuss their concerns and provided guidance and advice relating to the government services. The federal government handles all matter of national and international concerns such as national defense, foreign affairs, fisheries and oceans, currency, criminal law and public safety. It is laid by the prime minister who works as a federal elective representative from across Canada called members of parliament or MPs. MPs gather to the legislation and the political decisions in the house of common in Ottawa.  Next is the provincial or territorial government which is responsible for more regional issues like education, health care, natural resources and transportation and highways. The provincial or territorial government is laid by the premier who makes decision based on input from provincial elective representatives. In Ontario provincial elective representatives are called member s of provincial parliament or MPPs. MPPs meet the legislature at Queen’s Park in Toronto. Finally, there are municipal governments which represent the interests, cities and towns. There receive the powers from the province and they are responsible for local manners such as waste of wood, library, city transit and parks and recreation. Their leader is called a mayor or reeve and they meet a city or town councillor to make their decisions.  Many parts of your life are impacted by the various levels of government on the everyday basis.
